- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 June 2015Style Name: WoodenVerified PurchaseBought to cover an extra-wide doorway for both baby and puppy. Works brilliantly.
Quality: It's good stuff, the wood is a nice quality, with natural flex obviously, and well put together. all the holes line up, the bolts are good quality and nice and solid, and the both catch and hinges are well made and dependable.
Fitting and fixtures: I used my own screws, because I always do, but did use the supplied rawl plugs as this was going into a wooden door frame. You will need to use specialist rawl plugs if you are fixing into anything else (brick/plasterboard etc). If you've done any DIY in your life (like putting up a shelf) then you'll be fine. The instructions are a touch basic, but the template is really useful and works perfectly if you have engaged even half of your brain.
Unlike a pressure gate, there is no irritating bar to trip over, and I will definitely be getting another one for the top of the stairs when baby reaches the toddling stage.
oh, and a note on the bolts which hold and adjust the width if the panel... if your toddler can undone these - then you gave birth to a freak with screwdrivers for fingers. Use a phillips-head screwdriver on either side and not even a determined adult could get them out without tools. If you only did them finger-tight... then you get what you deserve.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 7 January 2013Style Name: WoodenVerified PurchaseThese gates ticked all the boxes of being child proof yet allowing the rest of us in the house to operate them one-handed so it was a bonus that they were both simple to fit and matched the décor. Fitting the quick release brackets to the wall is made easier by the inclusion of a drilling template with the instructions and there's sufficient adjustment to have the lower bracket on the skirting and the top one on the wall - full marks to Lindam for thinking this through. The two halves of the gate are pre-drilled at regular intervals so you simply line up the set of holes that extends the gate to the right width, and make any fine adjustment with the threads that locate the gate into the wall brackets.
As with any supplied fixings, it's always worth using your own if you have them to hand and vital if you're affixing to plasterboard so maybe add something like these: Rawlplug 07 122 Metal Selfdrill Plasterboard Fixing (Pack of 25)or these Faithfull FXMCA552B Plasterboard Cavity Anchors 5 x 52mm (Pack of 10)to your order, though frankly both are available much cheaper locally.
To date they've stood up to our Houdini son's escape attempts and are very secure once latched. It's also very well finished and much more tactile than a metal gate. Plus there's no lip to step over which for me was essential at the top of the stairs.
At a time when I needed no additional frustrations in life, I appreciate the total ease of use of these gates, particularly having tangled with the in-law's set of stair gates which are invariably hurdled as they're such a faff.
One of our better kiddy related purchases
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 January 2016Style Name: WoodenVerified PurchaseOverall, the gate is well conceived and does its job. I did not buy this to stop infants from wandering, but the family cat from rushing between our legs, through the front door, and under the wheels of the local speed merchants.
My principle gripe, as with some others, is that the instructions are non-existent, other than as, increasingly with self-assembly items, minute doodlings.
The quick answer to this increasing use of word-free instructions is obvious; many such kits are made in countries, such as China, and rather than go to the expense of producing pages of multi-lingual blurb, they rely upon a few drawings to explain the construction system, which would be fine if they could learn to give clearly defined, step-by-step, drawings, in a size that did not require a magnifying glass.
It is also worth considering that, although the width is adjustable, it may not precisely fit every aperture, in which case a strip of 44mm wide baton - depth to suit the remaining gap - will probably solve your problem.
I would also recommend fitting the bottom hinge first, (it can be unclipped), then getting someone to hold the gate in position with the top hinge attached, mark the edge holes on the top hinge bracket, then either unclip the gate, or get your helper to hold, whilst you drill the mounting holes. The template is useful, but being folded for packing, the marks can be a little off.
The main things is that once in place the gate is both functional and neat.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 May 2022Style Name: WoodenVerified Purchaseif you're buying a gate to stop dogs climbing the stairs, then it's a more permanent fixture than a "baby gate". Also if you're buying to stop super-athletic bearded collies climbing the stairs then you might need to be able to stack two of these on top of each other (just saying) - you want something that fits better into the aesthetic of your house than an ugly, white painted metal thing - and this does that. The lack of a step-over bar at the bottom is a massive help. It's a good, solid thing, well worth the money.
only slight niggle with it is that you're putting quite a lot of strain on the screws in the bottom mounting fixture, so you're probably going to want to fit bigger screws (and longer rawlplugs) than those provided. unfortunately, the holes provided for the screw-heads to countersink into the fixture are too small for most chunky-sized screws - meaning you have to really root about to find the right ones.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 November 2024Style Name: WoodenVerified Purchasewe use it as puppy gate and it does the job. its very solid and attractive
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 27 August 2009Style Name: WoodenVerified PurchaseI have brought many stair gates over the years, this one is by far the best I have brought. It is very easy to fit, strong, safe, very versatile and as a bonus looks great too.
Unlike the many gates that have a bar across the bottom that I have tripped on many times, the lindam has no such trip hazzard when open. 5 out of 5 for me, I will be buying another couple to fit at my mothers house for visits.
