    Blackout comes off
Bought this tent just over 3 years ago but has only been used twice prior to last year. First time my son camped in the back garden in 2021 where it was up for two nights, then once to a music festival weekend a few weeks later. It hadn't been used since the music festival and was always put away bone dry. Went camping last year (2023) having been stored away for 2 years under my son's bed. The blackout coating is now all coming off in what feels like a sticky gluey mess. If you touch it, the blackout coating comes off on your hands like black tar allowing the light to shine through and it's a nightmare to get off your hands or clothes should you accidentally rub against it. After a bit of research it turns out this is a known issue with the material used to coat the inside of blackout tents which starts to break down and disintegrate after a couple of years or if it's been stored in a really hot place. I wouldn't class under a bed as an excessively hot place or extreme conditions. BTW this is not an exclusive issue to Coleman tents but the blackout coating used on ALL tents which is why so many manufacturers stay away from making blackout tents. My advice is to avoid if you're planning to reuse your tent or keep it for a few years. If you're only planning to use it once or twice then throw it away then you might be OK. This tent is great, quick and easy to erect and feels really warm. The red colour really goes with the black and feels cosy and (when it worked) the blackout was great especially for festivals when you want a much needed lie in after a late night/early morning and on hot days it really does help to keep it cool. Having said that, we went away last summer and found that sometimes the blackout can be a pain when trying to find stuff in the dark or get dressed when you can't find your clothes or your phone charger etc. Plus we're rarely in our tent during the day to worry about it getting too hot. Can't say we noticed much difference at night between our non blackout tent and this being any warmer. I so much love this tent for a short two person getaway or a festival but if I was going to buy one now I would seriously suggest getting the same tent in the non blackout version. It will last a lot longer and be more practical so you're not scurrying around in the dark in the middle of the day having to use a torch to find your car keys. The last time we used it, we had to withstand 3 days of torrential rain and it didn't leak once. This is one seriously robust tent. We also purchased a Eurohike tarpaulin to go over the front which gave us a bit more protection from the rain as there's not really anywhere to store cooking equipment or chairs which I would say makes this tent even better if your planning to store things outside. As usual, ignore the person size. This will fit 2 adults comfortably lying side to side and that's about it. The only way you'd fit 3 or 4 people in this is if they were kids or under 4ft tall. This tent will fit a standard double sized SIM in sideways as per the photos. Had a couple of great weekends in this tent but my advice: Consider the green non blackout version first. Happy Camping!

I bought this tent on offer for short stays on my own. I've been away twice now and each time I've been set up and having a brew within 30 minutes. I'm very impressed with the blackout bedroom which has definitely improved my sleep. I've not been able to get it back in the bag but to be fair I've not tried too hard and it's small enough to pack into a shopping bag.

      Can't really fault this.

Went up fast despite me having never set up a tent in my life.

It didn't rain when I used it so I can't comment on its waterproofing. In the morning it did pick up a lot of moisture on the outside and inside was still bone dry.

When you set it up think about if you will need the airflow open because you can't open that from the inside. It was a really hot day when I used mine.

Being a dark color it does get warm inside if in the sun.

Perfect tent for two. I'm 6ft and could easy fit inside. You can of course fit three but would be shoulder to shoulder. Perfect for three kids.

Only thing was I wished I had bought a very small folding seat that I could use in the morning to sit on while sorting my things I the morning for packing while inside the tent.

The previous comments about not being able to get the tent back in the bag are an over exaggeration. I got mine back in easy.

I waited until I used this tent until I wrote a review. Basically I loved it but there were a few niggles which came between the tent and the 5 star review it nearly deserves.
      Positives:
      A) it really is waterproof! Our last night in wales was really wet and it was chucking it down when we broke camp. But the inside of the tent stayed dry. Obviously as the tarpaulin inside the porch is not attached any kit stored here in bad weather gets wet
      B) the blackout is awesome! In the sleeping area just a few glimmers of light around the seams lets you know that dawn has arrived
      C) look at the pictures and sleep with your head by the door end! (I slept with my head at the back on the first night and there wasn’t enough headroom! )

      Negatives:
      A) I (late middle aged novice solo camper) couldn’t put it up on my own, I was grateful for another pair of hands
      B) the instructions are pictorial and not detailed enough
      C) repacking this tent into the carry bag requires skills way beyond my capabilities. Even after drying out and with the luxury of laying it out in the hall back home I couldn’t get it all back in the bag and settled for bundling tent plus bag into a bigger bag ready for our next adventure.
      D) I would not be happy to share this tent with my husband in wet weather never mind a third person. With a blow up mattress there was enough floor space for my hiking kit inside (knowing that we were expecting rain) but not for anyone else. I will attempt a double blow up mattress and sharing with the hubby on my next adventure when it’s guarenteed to be dry. If it doesn’t fit we have a crisis, watch this space!
